What is the difference?
The difference between a Member (MRICS), Associate (AssocRICS) and Fellow (FRICS) of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors are varying levels of expertise, experience and qualification within the surveying profession.
Typically, AssocRICS is entry level membership within the institution, with MRICS being the general membership and fellow being the highest tier – being granted only when a significant contribution in experience or expertise has been provided over a career to the surveying industry.
AssocRICS requires 4 years of experience OR relevant qualification + 1 year of experience.
MRICS requires a degree + 2+ years of experience + APC assessment
FRICS requires 5+ years as MRICS + industry leadership & contributions
What is a registered valuer within RICS?
A registered valuer within The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is a surveyor who is certified and compliant within the institution to carry out ‘RedBook’ valuation reports.
Typically, a registered valuer must be MRICS or FRICS certified and demonstrate clear competency within the ‘valuation’ competency list of the institution along with completing their registration process with RICS.
A registered valuer within RICS is only typically used for lending purposes, taxation, litigation and disputes or financial reporting purposing. A registered valuer is not required for a market appraisal of a property for letting or sale.
